Welcome to the most exciting part of our year!! Third Annual Hayward Tequila Festival. On October 8th, 2011 we will be celebrating the third year of homage to the great Tequila Industry. Councilman Francisco Zermeno, Ricardo Perez of Manada Roofing and Alejandro Gamarra of The Mexican Restaurant and Bar, continue this Hayward tradition. It began three years ago with the seductive and distinct taste of our Blue Agave spirit. Such is our fascination that we decided to organize an event similar to those in other parts of the state. We feel privileged to be the first in our greater Bay Area to go beyond a tasting of Tequila, and offer a festival of this unique spirit that so proudly identifies one aspect of Mexico.
For many years Tequila was portrayed as a drink to shoot down along with lime and salt. And for many more years Tequila has now been established and appreciated as unique, flavorlful, complex, and full of character!!
We onced enjoyed a few popular labels, but in the past decade the industry has flourished with popular, estate bottled, limited editions, and many Tequilas aged in different barrels to add sophistication with incredible results. Don Julio 1942 has amazed Tequila aficionados with a distinct smooth vanilla finish. Clase Azul has offered a romance with its sweetness. El Tesoro continues to do it the old fashion way….always flavorful and always faithful. Ocho has captured the robust Agave flavor and continues to impress.
Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, Extra anejo and some flavored Tequilas have now dominated bars across the States and across the seas. As a matter of fact, a Margarita has now become the preferred cocktail of most Americans! So move over Martini and Rum and Coke. Our beautiful Margarita is indeed the Queen.
Tequila is our passion and through this Grand Tasting of over 20 labels and 50 Tequilas, we hope to share it with you.
